FOUNDER'S DISTRICT CONFERENCE CONTEST RESULTS
Written by Meline Talarian - Sunday, April 25, 2010

The moment we've all been waiting for...the results from the Founder's District contests our club participated in: Table Topics, the Diamond Web Award as well as the Public Relations Achievement Award.

Competition was tough in all categories. Here's a summary of what went on:

Table Topics: Our President Dave Jones gave a great response to the Table Topic question: "If you were to be on the cover of a magazine, which would it be and why?" There were eight contestants and all of them were strong candidates for first place. But, only one person can win... so, this time around, Dave did not make the cut.

Diamond Web Award: Irvine Lunchtime Toastmasters Club won 1st place for this award. Congratulations!

Public Relations Achievement Award:  Yours truly, Meline Talarian, won the 1st place award! One more award for Kaiser Toastmasters Club!

As for the International Speech contest results, WOW, those of you who did not attend the conference, you missed some amazing speeches given by all contestants. It was wonderful listening to all the motivational messages they shared with the audience. Finally, after a long wait, the results were in...our Division B contestant, Carl Walsh, took home the 1st place trophy, again! Well done, Carl. Good luck in Palm Desert in August!

I highly recommend that you all plan to attend the International Conference in August which will take place in Palm Desert. Don't miss this great opportunity to hear speakers from all over the world right here in our back yard! See you all there!

THE FRIENDLIEST CLUB DOES IT AGAIN!

Written by Meline Talarian - Saturday, March 27, 2010

Congratulations are in place for our President, Dave Jones, who won 2nd place at the Table Topics Division Contest today.

Dave competed against four other contestants. The competition was tough, but Dave gave an outstanding table topic speech. The question he had to address was "If you had to invite a celebrity to your dinner table, who would it be and why?" Dave's answer was "President Obama! And, the question he'd ask the President is how he handles raising two girls!" Dave's answer was humorous, clever and entertaining. Great job, Dave. Kaiser Toastmasters is proud of your achievement. You brought home one more trophy!

Club Members, come see Dave's trophy at our next Tuesday's meeting and congratulate him in person.

photo HOW DID TOASTMASTERS COME TO BE?

In October 1924, a group of men assembled by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., forming a club “to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members.” The group took the name “Toastmasters.”  Read more.
